Hey guys, i have not been diving since 13 of august 2006 when i did my Open water diver course. My question is: "can i go diving with a buddy today, or do i need to take a dive or a course with an instuctor before going out with my buddy?"

Your card is good for life. That can't be said for your skills however. For most divers a layover like yours is no big deal. However in your case you really have not been diving independently so it's very important that you get out there a time or 2 with a seasoned diver who can keep an eye on things. Lacking such a person go get a refresher course. If the LDS or club has periodic dives get out there with them so you will be in a helpful group.

..snip..

Depends on the agency.
My CMAS card for example has an expiry date 5 years after issue.

It does not expire but to get a new card from PADI it will cost you THIRTY BUCKS. So treat it like gold and don't loose it or you'll have to pay big!
