So my husband and son BEG me to get certified. I FINALLY do. Now they are always busy when I want to dive. Grrrrrrrr. They are going to reduce me to standing at dive site entries leaning over whispering, 'Psssst, hey buddy, wanna dive?!' :D

I can only imagine you would be in the water pretty quick, I am sure people would have no problem letting you tag along. might even inspire them to get out with you

The nearest my wife is of water is in the daily shower.
Hopefully my wife would certify.
She has been promising me to learn to swim since so many years that I cannot remember the first time.
When we are at the beach on vacations she is afraid of the minimal wave that breaks, even if the water only covers her feet.
But if she gets certify, we would be diving every week and no money could cover that.

That's precisely why I want my wife to get certified ASAP. I don't want her to be on the upswing, while I could be a little less enthused years from now (though, I doubt it!). Keep working on them. If they have been bitten by the bug like the rest of us, I'm sure they'll cave sooner or later.

Leave home with all your gear. Come home 9 hours later and tell him what a great time you had diving with all the guys. Tell him how the "boys" carried your gear for you, etc. Soon he'll be diving with you. LOL If that doesn't work, my buddies are always game for more.

My first dive buddy doesn't dive anymore. Bummer but he's got a lot of other stuff going on...just happens sometimes. Since then I'm finding a lot more and loving it again. This board certainly helps.

Lots of active local divers here....all you gotta do is ask ;)

Are you into shore diving? Boat diving?

Don't laugh - this actually worked for me! :D My husband and I got certified at the same time a few years ago, but I got WAY more into it than he did at first. So I joined a couple of local dive clubs and started posting on dive message boards (including this one), and I took the plunge to go and meet strangers at dive sites. After a few dives they were no longer strangers, and I had regularly scheduled beach dives most weeks. I also boldly signed up for boat dives by myself, and then posted on here and other boards asking if anyone wanted to join me and be my buddy. I didn't always get responses, but if I didn't find a buddy on here, I always found buddies on the boats, even if it was just the DM diving with me, which happened once or twice.

After enough of this, hubby finally started coming with me! We started doing frequent beach dives on the weekends, and booking boat dives together. We also bought our own sailboat, and dive off it occasionally, and we took a few dive-related vacations. I now do pretty much all of my diving with him.

Unfortunately his knees have been bothering him lately and he doesn't want to do beach dives anymore, so we're limited to dive boats or diving off our own boat. But now I'm missing beach diving! So I'm back to needing to find buddies to dive with. :blinking:

Well, I scared my son into going with me tomorrow. I told him I was going to find an instabuddy in Laguna. He is 23 and rather protective of his Mom. LOL.
I think I am going to join a local dive club. I also threatened to go on the Magician midweek without my husband. Hubby is now going to Catalina with me this weekend.:D
I scare the heck out of them, because they know I will do it.
I'll be damned if I'll waste all this new equipment! ;)

Well Leeanne, I am just in Corona. Do you like Laguna diving? I am a 45 year old newbie, but I have enthusiasm. I was raised in Hawaii, so water is my friend. I am amazed at how long it took me to finally get around to getting certified.

Gina :o)
