Hi,

Just got a Sea&Sea YS-01 w/its fiber optic cable & adapter connected to my Oly PT-015 housing for C-5050Z. Unfortunately, the part of the housing in front of the internal flash has all sorts of curvature, so the adapter with the gel like side cannot sit completely flush with the housing. I assume if it is made of that material, it is for the purpose of having a tight seal, but in my case, it is not and water will likely get in between the end of the cable and the housing.

Will the water in between those 2 mediums in any way cause the strobe sensor to not detect the proper light given off by the internal strobe? I presume, if it is murky water in there, it will not matter because the strobe is just measuring the duration of the internal flash, not its intensity.

It is just the fact I can't get a flush fit of the adapter and every time I velcro it on, it might not sit on the exact position gives me concern.

Anyway, with all the velcro hooks glued onto the housing, internal flash and focus light are all blocked or have enough obstruction that they will be useless. I guess I can't alternate to shooting with internal flash.

Water wont stop the flash from triggering. So much so that you can kinda mess with people that are using fiber optic triggered strobes. If I were take a picture of you taking a picture from the front the light from my strobes would trigger yours to fire. I think it is an effect of the shooters strobe lighting up the clear plastic housing and transferring that light to the optic cable. Depending on your recycle time you may end up with a bunch of images that are really dark because your strobes were charging when you took your shot!

I had an Oly 5050 with the PT-015 housing and a Sea and Sea strobe/velcro attachment, etc.
I never had a problem with the strobe firing (in "slave mode", of course), as long as the "scratchy" velcro was securely attached to the "fuzzy" velcro.
In my experience, the presence of water at that location was not a problem. The important thing is to be sure that the velcro connection keeps out any extraneous light, to give the FO cable the best chance to transmit the light from the camera's internal flash, to the strobe.

Because of the curvature of the housing, it will be hard to point the cable at the center of the internal flash. I guess it doesn't matter as long as some of that flash's light gets to the fiber optic cable.

So water, non-optimized placement won't affect the YS-01's D-TTL?

Just came back from trip, that rubber seal thing was more trouble than its worth. Found out my strobe was not firing properly anymore, turned out the rubber seal thing came off from the plastic adapter and shifted so that it was blocking the fiber optic cable from seeing the internal flash. Removed that ring and all was good.
