My wife does not dive and Bonaire is the one location that she says "I going" when I plan a dive trip.

I was diving at Something Special this afternoon and a couple arrived during my surface interval.

She pulled out a beach chair, book, and beach bag.

He pulled out his dive gear and went for a dive.

They both looked happy.

My parents are non-divers and have already said that they'll be back to Bonaire again. If you aren't looking for shopping and night-life then they felt Bonaire had a lot more to offer than Curacao or any of the dozen other islands they've been to in the last 15 years. Different strokes I guess but I know that at least some non-divers find the island great.

Thanks everyone for your responses all were great and will be useful in our decision. I'll post what we decide and will post once we return (hopefully we'll be able return the favor)

Thanks agin

I run a dive boat in Morehead City, NC where the diving is an all day adventure at sea for two 30 minute dives. It is great and I love it, but my wife will not dive NC.

I took my "certified, but probably will not dive much" wife to Bonaire in early December and she ended up doing 17 dives. I only did 21. It is just so dang easy and even though we were riding around looking for dive sites, it didn't feel like we were just diving. Every day we had a great lunch at a different restaurant, and after 2 more dives in the afternoon we would bring chairs and sit in the shade and enjoy an Amstel Bright (or 2) taking in the view. Then we would go back, shower and watch the sunset poolside with a Bonaire Breeze (our name for a drink with absolut, coconut rum and whatever fruit juice we could find, any combination of pineapple, orange, papaya, mango and passion fruit).

We stayed within walking distance of the restaurants and bars on the waterfront in Kralendyck so our evenings were wonderful.

On our last day before flying home, we packed up a cooler, a camera and drove completely around the island taking pictures.

It was a wonderful vacation. Maybe your wife will fall in love with diving again like mine did.

Here is a video blog I posted on my website about the trip.
