The plugs definitely aren't a substitute for equalizing early and often and using whichever of the standard tricks that help. They don't equalize for you.

Well said!

I just got my advane this weekend!!! After 21 years of diving,,,go figure. Always had problems clearing and also feeling that hollow sound in your head when you click your teeth after a dive. Used the plugs to 97 feet in the Blue Grotto spring on Sunday. I started to clearing my ears at the surface and did so every 20 seconds or so all the way back into the cavern. I feel that they did help me. They seemed to keep that rush of cold water from coming into my ears and hitting my eardrums. The biggest thing was after 2 days of diving 5 dives ,,,,,I don't have that hollow sound in my head like I have for the past 20 years. I will continue to use them. I give them a two thumbs up

I had some (lost 'em fishing some other crud out of my BCD pocket a few weeks back) and they seemed to work alright, but were really really uncomfortable with a hood on, to the point where I found myself sticking a finger into my hood to pull 'em out mid-dive. Maybe I just have big ears. :) They seemed to help in warmer waters for the pair of dives that I had 'em, and diving with a hood seems to keep most of the water out of my ears _anyway_ up north here.
