The question for me is if I can swim for 14mins continously........I run, play basketball and a bit of badminton. I have endurance but never had to swim for 14mins straight.

My tech1 begins Oct31....it's a shame that I just read this thread now. I have to rush to a pool tomorrow! I think I'm in trouble.

You don't have to swim 14 mins. Its 300 yards in less than 14 mins for DIRF and 400 yards in less than 14 mins for Tech1/Cave1

OK thanks,
So i have just to work a bit on trim before fundies....
Hmmmm, is that fully equipped ? skin diving without fins ? or just fins/mask ?

The breath-hold swim is in a bathing suit. No fins. Pretty sure I could do it easily with fins :)

Yeah that what i thought too.
I am around 100 m with fins. Around 30m without (long ago) so i guess 15 m will be damn easy even without fins.
So TRIM TRIM TRIM. and i go for fundies soon
thanks a lot

I found the underwater swim hard on my Fundies because of lack of technique. After my buddies showed me a way of doing it, it was easier on later classes. I did a really slow breaststoke with long slow sweeps of the arms which helped to keep me down whilst I concentrated on sticking to the bottom of the pool. Maybe this took my mind off the wanting to breathe thing?

It also didnt help doing it straight after the swim with no break :)

When the time comes I'll try for it, it's just discouraging for me to see them raising the bar for that particular hoop. I'm in good shape for an older guy, go the the gym 4 days a week, I just don't like swimming very much.

You shouldn't have a problem. I think the actual requirement is actually 400 yds and not 500. Beto said that he knew that it would be too easy for us, so increased it for our benefit. :lotsalove:

I'm sure if you have some fitness level you'll do fine.

Hi everyone,

I've been without an internet connection while staying at the Travel Lodge in Monterey, their connection failed, so sorry I haven't updated this thread I started.

Well, we just finished Day 5 with one more day to go with Jarrod Jablonski and Beto Nava.

The last 5 days of class, drills and diving has been nothing short of incredible. Never have I been so challenged and asked to do tasks that I considered impossible to do.

I thought Fundies was a huge step and have improved a lot since then, but the improvement that we all experienced by far has eclipsed anything I've done in Fundies afterwards.

More details to follow!

Good luck Doc with your last day! I can't wait to see your report.

I have to say WOW...DocWong with no internet connection, how did you do it??? No YouTube, no blog, email, ect...It must have been hard for you to unplug for a few days. I hope your phone held up. LOL!!! :)

Waiting for details . . .
