Do you "wet" your tank band?

I do. But when I have forgotten I have never had a problem. I just make sure that it's tight to begin with.

Since most of my dives are shore dives (whytecliff, porteau), it is impractical to walk down to the water, wet it, walk back up the hill, suit up, walk back down to water and go for the dive.
Secondly, on my ranger there doesn't seem to be any potential for slippage...when I take my BCD off at the end of the dive it is just as snug.

I always do. Nylon stretches when wet...not by much, but if your strap isn't tightened well, then it MIGHT be a problem. I'm using a Pioneer with the dual cam straps with octogrip (fancy name for rubber on the straps) and the metal cam buckles so I don't have to, but even then... I still wet them. It's not such a big deal and I figure, why not?

I've never heard of this, never had a problem with slippage myself, never seen anyone do it and I have only seen someone elses bottle come out under water on very rare occasions. Interesting though.

Every time I dive

OK, OK - I just leave my rig on the tank (even when I fill 'em) and when I switch tanks, the bands are already wet. If I'm diving doubles - the SS bands don't stretch

The ones that I've had that slipped, slipped for a lifetime if they were not wet first. That being said, not all of them were 'slippers'. I also noticed that I had more slippage problems with alum tanks.
