i tipped mine, but it was a bit unusual. he certed me for expenses - i paid for the book, a charter for both of us, and a few meals - so i gave him a cash tip.

The best tip your instructor could possibly get would be a bottle of golden single malt Scotch whiskey. ALL dedicated scuba instructors enjoy sipping single malt Scotch upon the completion of their instructorly duties.

If your instructor is any kind of truly superior instructor at all, s/he will prefer Oban.

I would be embarrassed if a student tipped me, I'm just not comfortable at recieving gratuities. Although an enthusiastic "thank you" after the class is always my best reward!
Now Doc's suggestion of the single malt would be hard to turn down, and surely put a smile on my face later.

I've had tips ranging from $5 to $500, although most folks don't tip.

Of course, if everyone tipped $500, there'd be a lot more joy in the world ...

As much as a tip is nice I like it when a student emails or sends a letter to the shop thanking the instructor and DM .
