Took an EANx course the other day. The book and instructor made a point of saying that you should not get an enriched fill if the filler cannot provide certification and an annually-issued verification of the quality/accuracy of the fill (without my handbook in front of me, I forget exactly what these were but you get the idea). For those who use Nitrox, do you actually ask for such verification before getting a fill? I would see doing it if the place looks suspect or maybe if it's in a 3rd world kind of location and you have some doubts about the place, but I am wondering if you are getting a fill from an average shop in the US if people really ask for these certificates or licenses.

No. (I do not...but you could)

Do you ask to see the Captain's credentials?

Do you check the health department rating of places you eat?

They should have these things displayed near the fill station though.

I think Neco Marine does in Palua. Sam's and many places the tanks show up at the boat.

Analyzing the tanks is sort of the bottom line. I mean say they had "poor credentials" but if the EAN .36 is .36....do you still care?

Yes. I care. Because I don't know what else went into my tank besides the supposed good oxygen.

At your station, we have our certifications (issued more than annually) easily displayed. Where I fill, the certifications are displayed near the fill area.

If you ever have the "pleasure" of having to clean your tanks of contaminants, you'll become a bit more discriminating in where you fill.

None of which will help your tanks if a filter goes.

Too true Jeff, too true. Two shops near me have had filters let go this summer.
