I have usually have a few beers after diving. It would be pretty stupid to drink before a dive if you have any knowledge of dcs. I'd doubt it if many divers drink before but I'm sure there are a few cowboys out there who do.

I only dive when on vacation so alcohol after diving definitely comes into play. I pay more attention to hydration the morning after imbibing. We also have a rule of two glasses of water for every alcoholic beverage consumed. Never drank before diving but did drink beer on the boat ride home while diving in Antigua. I really did not see that as a big deal since it was post-diving. :fire:

I never drink before diving. When I finish my last dive, I have a couple of beers on the ride home.

Are you riding in the boat or in a car as you have a couple of beers? Please say boat as a passenger.

We have a very simple rule on our sponsored trips. Your first drink is after your last dive of the day.

...at the end of the day's dive, head to the nearest bar for rehydration. A lot of diving I do is inland in hilly areas and chilling out for a bit helps defizz before travelling over a mountain pass. The short term rehydration afforded by a weak beer beats the long term dehydration of the alcohol. Often we stash beer in the cave entrance and drink it on surfacing (examples: Luraville II & Wayne's World) - the idea is to relax before removing equipment. Take your empties with you, don't drink and d(r)ive.

"Home," in this context, meant "port." I have a couple of beers in the boat for the ride home. There is an open container law in Florida making it illegal to drink beer in your vehicle.

Apart from that law, what distintion are you drawing between the two? Why would you hope it was the boat in instead of my car, as long as I'm not getting drunk in either one.

What do the Docs in the audience think of this view? Doesn't the alcohol contribute to more dehydration, offsetting any benefit that might be provided by the liquid imbidded? Is there such a thing as "weak beer" in the UK? Then we throw altitude into the mix and you have a Delectable Cocktail for Sure...

Now one of my dive buddies, who is not registered on scubaboard, has a more liberal attitude on the subject:

For the boat ride back from a successful Middle Grounds trip a bottle of Cristal with a silly straw in it works good followed by copious shots of Hennessey and Belvedere vodka. In the car (2003 Escalade 24" rims, of course) we stop for some quarts of Bull also known as the mf'ing triple deuce of that malt-lickety juice! Keeping it real on the Westside, D4B.

I was a passenger in a boat of course. It was actually one of the tastiest beers I have ever had. A local brew called "Wadadil" or something to that effect. I would do it again in a heartbeat but I have never found a dive boat that offers beer on the return trip. I guess my opinion on that is, why not?

Well, yes. I drink water before I dive and beer after I dive. If I didn't, I'ld be even Grumpier than I normally am.
