Do most people remove the LCD hood?

Nope, no tape or nuthin'! When I put the hood on I gently squeeze the base of the hood where the grips are to the rails on the housing, just to make sure everything is firm and connected well.

Same here......I use the UN magnifier hood and have never had it fall off underwater. It sure does help my "old" eyes. I'd recommend it.

every time I look the thing is dangling...maybe I got a faulty one?

I don't know. You're may be just an oonch (technical measurement!) too wide. Wonder if you tried a thin layer of aquaseal on the grooves of the hood to take up a little of that slack? Might be worth a try.
