I'm thinking of removing the LCD hood that is attached to the PT series of u/w housings as it just seems to be a dangly thing getting in the way more than helping. Does anyone find this useful enought to keep on, or am I not alone in my sentiments?

Thanks
Dave

Although it does fall off all the time it does help to see better...don't know how to explain it, but it helps. I upgraded to the magnifying version....it falls off even more and is a bit of a PITA...not sure if I would spend the money for it again.

No way would I remove it!

It helps far more than it hurts in bright to almost bright waters.

I've never had it fall off, though, so not sure what's up with that ;)

I took mine off - our water is darkish and I found it gets in the way of viewing the LCD sometimes at certain angles . I'm going to the Red Sea in August , so I'll take Alcina's advice and use it there - makes sense . However I do put it back on when the camera goes into the rinse bucket / tank and for transportation and storage , it helps prevent scratching the polycarbonate around the LCD viewing area .

I was going to buy the magnifier but reading the response from justleesa maybe I'm just wasting money . Will it be any help at all to my older eyesight :D ?

No way would I remove it. No matter what depth I feel it improves the view. I've been using the magnifying hood for about a year and have really enjoyed it. It's especially nice when you're dependant on bifocals! I'd hate to go back to the old one.

I have never had either of mine just fall off! I never leave my rig in a rinse bucket for the very reason you mention....too much damage can happen in there! A wet towel keeps it wet until you can get to a freshwater rinse and do it right.

it falls off during the dive...did you tape yours on?

There are folks out there, like Dee, that love the mag hood...maybe it's just my crappy eyes...sorry.

I tried to dive without the hood once in bright conditions and had trouble viewing the LCD at shallower depths. Since that day I always leave it on. It has never fallen off.

Maybe I'll get one anyway - they're cheap enough .I'm about to order a new strobe and Athena Dome from Yuzo , I'll put one in the order as well .Perhaps I should give the hood another chance U/W this weekend and try to get used to it. Never had mine fall off either - in fact it stays fairly well put .

maybe I'm a klutz too...
Your pictures redeem you :D.

I dive hoodless - it seemed to get in the way more than blocked the bright sun in our shallow waters. By 30', around here, it's dark enough not to need it. I might one day opt for the magnifier but I'm too busy paying for other gadgets.
