I am a certified EMT and was looking at the DMT course that DAN will be offering later on this ytear and was just wondering if anyone here on the boards has taken one of these classes/cert'd as a DMT? How thorough is the body of knowledge they cover, and are there actuall job positions for DMT or is it more of just a cert/continuing ed for those of us into both diving and emergency medicine. From the research I have done, unless you have a commercial diving background you will probally not get a "front line" job as a DMT. Where you could stand the possibility of getting a job in a hospital hyperbaric facility as a first step towards a CHT certification.

I compleated my Dmt one year ago, Before doing this I was working as an Instructor for few years,
The course I attended was held with the ddrc in plymouth uk, The course content was Valuable for the industry and the facility exellent.Most courses there are busy and are structured with Dmt stuff during the day assisting the local hospital and hyperbaric facility at night.The materials include Mosbys and several dive related folders.

As for work in my and my co workers experience it was easy to find within the recreational market im currently based on an island in Thailand running an evac service with primary care and dci accident management There definetly seems to be a shortage in this feild.
Commercial work wise it seems to be one of many tickets needed for topside offshore work practically a requirement.
You have your Emt allready You obviously love dive work so go for it.Im finding the work interesting and rewarding and able to offer a good life style.

I also am interested in that course. Im a Fireman/EMT-B in Springfield, Mo and a diver on the Water Rescue Team. Im very interested in the course and would like to go.
Im wondering if DAN offers this course annually or is this a one time deal. I have about another year till I'll be a "dive leader" and eligible to take the extra day of instruction. That may be the only way I can get my Department to pay for the trip.
Anyone know if they will offer this course again?

There are several courses offered all around the country. In the US, the DMT "certification" is offered by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology. They offer a list of approved training facilities by state for the DMT certification on their website www.nbdhmt.org
