I'm a Fish!
Due my work is it possible to split my dive master course into 2 places?
I have a week to do the practical , coursework and exams and do my internship and required in another place /country / dive outfit?

Thanks guys

I guess it's possible, but I don't advise trying to just cram in the training. One of the most important aspects of a divemaster is anticipating what the instructor wants or needs without them having to ask. My partner in my course is an professor in college, and thought he wanted to do all the exams at once. He still hasn't completed the course, and has decided to take the exams one at a time. That's alot of material to try and study and absorb in a quick period of time. It is also different in working with actual students rather than other dmc's pretending to be students in the practical. In the DM course, mastery is mastery to demonstration quality. That takes time. The rescue scenario is held to a MUCH higher standard than during your rescue class. Again, this is just my opinion and I think you would be much happier getting with one instructor and taking a comprehensive course over a period of time.

Oh, and I meant to add, the DM course is where you learn the theory, physics and the mechanics of diving. If you plan on going on to an Instructor rating, those will not be taught again but you will be tested again on it. Best of luck in however you decide to proceed.

To me so much of the DM training was gaining experience in a teaching environment and learning about working with new divers. I've been doing it for years and I'm still learning from every class. Rushing through it will be doing a disservice to you and the students and instructors you teach with. Splitting it between 2 locations is probably doable but I would recommend you do you training in environment that you plan to teach in.

Thanks guys,

Your replies have been very insightful.

Actually I plan to take my DM in Thailand and go back to Vietnam for work. I can squeeze in 12 days for the Thailand leg and Then I dont mind helping a resort for free until i complete my internship and even more back in Vietnam.
I plan to go forward to be a PADI instructor and would really be hands on with real students.

what do think guys?

dasaint,

I finished mine in July on Samui. PM me if I can help. I think it really comes down to your instructor. All dive operations have some problems, nothing is perfect, but the instructor or instructors your paired with is of the utmost importance.

As a side note I am breaking it down into segments. I will do my AI in December and then complete the OWSI in June if everything goes according to plan. In the meantime I am assisting as a DM for OW courses and running a local scuba club and diving as much as I can :)

Good luck,

Arizona
