I admit I'm addicted to Sink The Stink. I love the smell, the taste in my reg... reminds me a dive is about to take place and I get excited.

I ran out.

Went to my LDS and he is out.

I can wait. But it got me thinking, there must be a recipe out there somewhere for DIY Sink The Stink.

Anyone know the recipe?

Would a little vinegar in the rinse bucket work? Though I wouldn't put regs and gear in, just wetsuits, boots and other clothing items... It works for most other times you need to get rid of smells around the house...

Well, vinegar does not smell like STS. :11:

Also, I think there's some kind of enzyme in the stuff.

It's not DIY, but MiraZyme is another good de-stinker. Also enzyme based. Available in a lot of outdoor shops.

You may like the Sink-the-Stink smell, Rick, but I find it just about as bad as the odor I'm trying to get rid of :). Mirazyme doesn't leave such a strong after-smell.

As for DIY conconctions, sometimes I'll use a bit of diluted bleach on my boots if they get truly foul. Or I'll just go scoop up a bucket of chlorinated water from a hot tub and let them soak in that for a while. Haven't tried this on the rest of my gear.

Oh, and I'll check out the Mirazyme. Thanks C99.

I use Gain Detergent in a bucket to soak my wetsuit, BCD, Gloves, etc. rinse with water hose let them dry and they smell great.

True on the smell ;)

It does work like the enzyme stuff on pet stains, etc.. so it makes sense that it would work like the STS in the same way too.

Aloha, Tim
