Hello,

My husband and I are looking into traveling to the western coast of Australia in the spring to dive with whale sharks. Does anyone have any recommendations, either good or bad, on diving companies/agencies to use?

Any suggestions on other things to do in in the Perth area after? We were on the east coast about a year and a half ago and we NEED to go back and see some more, this time on the west coast. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you.

How long will you be in the area? Do you want to dive in the southern part of the state, too? Perth and surrounds have some good diving and there are some wrecks a bit south. There is also the Margaret River area which is beautiful and has wonderful wineries.

There is no scuba diving with the whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef. All interaction is done on snorkel and the whale sharks are consistently very near the surface. There are two areas on the Ningaloo to see the sharks - Coral Bay in the south and Exmouth to the north. If you are visiting in very early April, head for Coral Bay for them; from mid April through the end of May either area; early June to mid July head for Exmouth.

Both areas also have great diving all season. Coral Bay has mantas all the time; from Exmouth the mantas start getting steady in late May...about the same time as the earliest humpback whales start coming through.

There is only one airline that services Exmouth/Coral Bay - www.skywest.com.au - and you simply book online. You would be looking for the Exmouth/Learmonth (code LEA) destination. Don't faint when you see the prices ;)

I can help with pretty much everthing you will need for the Ningaloo Reef area - you can follow my bolded Green link in my sig to get things started or you can PM me.

I'll also be in WA for 3 weeks early feb and will pop up to Ningaloo and Coral Bay. However the first place I am going to head straight to is Marget River and surrounds for a week: excellent wines and, so I've heard, really good diving.

Alcina - whats your favourite dives in the South of the state, and where did they sink HMS Thingy? How cool is the water down there - we will be dragging along drysuits and 3 mm's.

Cheers,
Rohan.

i agreel with alcina, Coral bay for swimming with whale sharks. its such a beautiful place much nicer and far less crowded than the GBR.
