Anyone hava any thoughts on wearing contacts while diving? I generaly don't for fear that I'll lose one or both if my mask floods.

I dive with my contacts in and don't have any problem. If you are worried about it you can always get a prescription mask. But I hear that your chances of your contacts 'floating' out of your eyes is slim anyway.

Flooding a mask isn't a big deal, but if you loose your mask unexpectedly.. your contacts are gone.

You may also experince some dryness issues if you dive for long periods (multiple hour dives).

I have worn contacts for years, never had any problems diving with them.
I always tend to close my eyes when taking off my mask which is probably why I have never lost one. My lenses are disposables, always make sure to have spare ones on my dive bag just in case.

One day I am going to save up and have LASIK

I wear mine all the time...been doing it for like twenty five years. I have the old-fashioned hard lenses, too. I have never lost one diving (knock wood!), just close you eyes when / if the mask floods.

i've dived with contacts both salt and fresh water and never had any trouble, other
than minor irritation one time that i flooded my mask (salt water) and got some water
in my eye. it was just a sligtht burning, no big deal.

i've had my mask flood like that a few times in strong current,
and never lost a contact.

the one contact i did loose was at Ginnie, in a shower booth,
drying my face with a towel!

I've used contacts for years w/o problem. Like seabat I'm paranoid about losing one, and take spares, but never have needed them.

There has been some discussion of "bent eyes" from long decompression obligated dives. All the reports I have seen of this seem to exclude NDL diving from this, though.

All the best, James

No problems.

I also just close my eyes if the mask floods unexpectedly.

If I were to completely lose the mask, I would expect to lose the contacts. Hope that never happens, because I don't see too well without them.

I've started thinking about carrying a backup mask for that reason, but I may just be getting paranoid in my old age. ;)

I've been diving with contacts for years in about every kind of condition. Never lost one or had any trouble. I agree, you take spares to keep Murhpy happy.
