scubadad - thanks.
Og - thanks - do you have a link where I can find the DAN database - google gives way too many links!

Sure..

www.diversalertnetwork.org

This will take you to the main screen, and you can look up the med info there.

Even easier - you can email a DAN MD (in the ask Dan section) and they will send you the most current links. You can also call them (not the 1-800) on the medical line, and speak with a diving physician - they're there to answer questions like this.

Lemme know how it works out!

I didnt get certified untill after my son was born and dont think i would have risked it i didnt drink caffiene or eat fast food as well maybe im a prude. but i do know one thing if you are pregnant or want to be or what ever if you decide to breastfeed and i eagerly urge you to consider it you can not dive while breastfeeding the pressure on your now humungous boobs will dwindle your milk production to the point of starving baby syndrome.
and coming from some one who dosent think time flies and will NOT be having anymore children it really is a short span of time that you are prego and a milker sit back and soak it up, snorkell and rest you have the rest of your life to dive and when you return to the deep blue...like all things in life after baby, you will see everything in a new way, through your childs eyes! :baby:

Well, are you going to go skydiving while you are pregnant? I mean there is no evidence that it is going to hurt the baby.

Or even having a couple of drinks a week won't hurt the baby really so go ahead right? Fetal alcohol syndrome will only come about if you are doing heavy drinking. So have at it.

Has it been PROVEN a cigarette or two a week will really damage the baby that much?? Or will it take a pack a day?

What I am trying to say here is - you have a lifetime to do what you want. That baby is only going be growing and forming inside of you for 9 months. She did not ask to be there and she deserves that time to grow.

In the scheme of things it is such a short time. Grab your snorkle and hang out with your buddies at the beach. Next season - find a babysitter and get certified.

Are there risks to diving pregnant? I really don't know -- and I really don't care... it just is not worth it to find out.

The OW manual indicates to discontinue diving if pregnant, or if attempting to get pregnant.
IMHO, if you are attempting to conceive, stop diving.

Ron, you've never been pregnant, so please dont quote manuals at me. Also most women, as I have mentioned before, know that it can sometimes take years to become pregnant.

OG - thanks! I called them and they said to stop as soon as you show positive on a test. So hoping that I show positive sometime in the next year or so, I will stop.

oh back off. I dont need to be preached at.

I took about a day to get pregnant both times we decided to have a child, I was lucky. I dived whilst breast feeding my son which i did for 15 months. Obviously not at the same time!! I never had any problems. My doctor advised me that it was fine and i was happy with that.

My son was always well over "normal" weight range and I never experienced a decline in milk supply in fact i always suffered the opposite, more than we could deal with.

aussie - it's taken me 5 years so far and I have only learnt to dive this year, so that's why I dont want to be told "dont dive if you're trying" because then I would never dive!
interesting that you had no problems whilst breast feeding - so far its 1 vote for, 1 vote against. DAN doesnt really mention this - their advice is more the timing post-birth of how you gave birth - eg natural=3 weeks; c-section=8 weeks.

My best friend who is also my Aunti (very close in age) took around nine years to fall she has one beautiful son, unfortunately she has been unsuccesful in falling a second and has decided to no longer put herself through the process. I understand what you are saying, i too would be inclined to think that way, you can't put on hold your life for something that may or may not happen it would be like sitting around to win the lottery.

I went natural and was advised that i could start swimming again immediately which i did to build up my strength in a relaxed manner, no impact etc.. I dived about 24 days after birth.

Good luck with baby, enjoy your diving. I am sure you will work out what is best and comfortable for yourself.
