We are heading down to Florida for a week and will be going down to the Keys. We are looking at diving around Key West but have no idea what charter to go with and what sites to see. OW and AOW divers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I just got back from Key Largo. Had a great time and some very nice diving there. I dove with Silent World. Nice boat and captain.

For the upper/middle keys try Conch Republic in Tavernier. Great folks. They can take you to the reefs or to some deeper wrecks if you want.

I dove with Rainbow Reef in Key Largo because they are one of the few shops that put a dive guide in the water at no extra charge. You can stay with the guide or not. I followed at a distance and let the newer divers stick close to him. He did find us some good things under ledges that we might have otherwise missed. They take two boats out morning and afternoon and they publish a schedule of planned dive sites. One boat stays shallow and the other goes to deep wrecks. I did only shallow diving despite being certified for deep and really liked it. It was about 40ft, very clear, lots of fish and coral. I saw more here than I've seen on carribbean dives: 6 spotted eagle rays swimming together, nurse shark, reef shark, green moray eel, huge stingray, lots of big groupers, barracudas, plenty of tropical fish and healthy coral. I stayed at the Holiday Inn at the MM100 marina where RR docks as well as several others dive boats.

Horizon Divers are great. Right next door to the Ramada Inn at MM 100. I don't think that you would go wrong at any place in Largo!

I dove with Ocean Divers in Key Largo. There boats are in front of the shop and they have a little sandwich shop next door. Did Benwood, Speigel Grove, Duane and reefs. Good time. They do not put a DM in the water with you.

Thanks for all the info for Key Largo..but has anyone been to Key West? Any recommendations for charters?

I used Captains Corner in Key West last October and would use them again. I will echo what everyone else said about Silent World. Also, Conch Republic in Tavernier(mm90?) runs a good operation and will visit some different reefs than the shops in the upper keys(mm100).

Have a good trip.
