Have a relative newbie with me, and I've only been to Cape Ann once, many years ago.

Anyone doing a fun dive? If not, give me some recommendations so I have something to start with when I start searching tomorrow!

I'm sure this has been posted a hundred times, but does anyone have a link to a tide chart? :D

Wish I could join you....

Tough to give a recommendation. Folly is really nice. Parking is tough and entry/exit can be a pain if it isnt high tide.
Back Beach is the place everyone trains at. Lots of parking (meters) and easy dive. Not too much to see though.
Although I havent done them (yet), Pebble Beach and Old Garden Beach seem pretty popular.

So I suppose we'll do Back Beach in the morning (low tide is 9:11, so get in the water at 8:45?), then maybe Folly in the early afternoon.

If high tide is at 3:30, what is the earliest recommended time for getting in the water at Folly?

We're going to dive Pebble Beach tomorrow early am (8 or so) - easy entry/exit, much fewer divers than Back Beach, and easy parking. We're going to do a single long dive there, then hang out for an hour or so on the beach and let our gear dry a bit.

Just to give an alternate point of view on Folly Cove - I love that site, well worth your time tomorrow, despite the high-season parking annoyance it provides. We, however, like to dive it at low tide - I find it's easier to get in and out when you can see where you're stepping!! It's just a longer walk over and between the rocks at low tide. Don't sweat it.

If you change your mind and head over to Pebble, say hello - we're a couple in our early/mid 30's. We'll be in a blue Subaru wagon.

:fish: Saturday is the Fish Count! That may be fun for you and your buddy. The United Divers of Central Mass is hosting Lane's Cove, but that might be a difficult intro back to Cape Ann especially because it will be a very low tide. I know that generally other clubs host a variety of sites... Which clubs are hosting which sites I do not know. Bob Michaelson is the area coordinator, his e-mail is pbm.inc@verizon.net, he might be able to tell you who will be where. But there are raffles and a bbq after all is said and done. You guys should check it out! Saturday will be a great day for you guys to be up there! Good luck and have fun!:fish:

Yea, Not to mention that we have 22 divers already at Lane's Cove tomarrow. Good thing it's low tide. We're goin to need all the real estate we can get.

for what its worth:
Fish count signups are as follows,
Cat Rocks - 13 Divers
Back Beach - 11 Divers
Lane's Cove - 22 Divers (all UDCM)
Old Garden - 14 Divers
Folly Cove - 16 Divers
Halibut - 2 Divers

I wazs going to recommend Lanes Cove if they got there earlier enough, but not now. It's a great dive site, but there is a bit of a parking problem there during the weekend. Then there's that site right next to Pebbles beach. I forget the name but you drop off your equipment and park your vehicles right up the street heading towards pebbles beach. The beach has a very easy entry, not too deep and plenty to see.

And the beach scenery isn't too bad either.

We ended up doing Old Garden Beach and Folly Cove.

Had a good time, but we never got below 26 feet ;)
