Just a quick lake report. Went diving yesterday and as I expected the lake was packed with the sounds of freedom as everyone was celebrating our Independance day; or that might have just been the screams of some local good'ol boys celebrating the ladies in their bikinis, whichever it was full. We couldn't dive our favorite spot because of the boat traffic so we traveled up the lake about a half mile. Visibility was 8 to 12 ft and the surface temp was around 80 degrees. Our max depth on this dive was 73ft. and the water temp at this depth was around 64 degrees. I was sporting a full 7mm wet suit and at depth the cool water made for a great dive. We didn't plan on a second dive, but somebody, me; lost my back-up dive mask which became my primary when the lens popped out of my primary. Anyway, to make a long story short we went back down to find the mask to no avail. We hit a muddy bottom at 73ft and visibility went from 8 to 12 ft to 0ft in just a couple of seconds. We stayed down a while feeling our way along the muddy bottom, but had to end the day minus one mask. Other than that it was a great day of diving.

a good day of diving. Sorry to hear about the mask problems though:(

What part of the lake were you diving and what is your favorite spot to dive sown there?

The boat traffic kept me out of the lakes--went to Falling Rock and got in over 2 hours of underwater time diving with biscuit7.

and a fabulous time was had by all!!!! Well, by me at least.

Thanks again jbd!

I guess the best place we've been so far is what they call Party Island right next to Wolf Creek Dam. The dam side of the island is like diving a wall. During the summer pool the depth just off the island can be as much as 200ft. We've found everything from golf balls to a Mares mask. Hope to dive Dale Hollow Sunday weather permitting.

Not near Lexington. Take 75 south to London then travel 80 west to Russell Springs KY. From there you will take 127 south all the way to Wolf Creek Dam. Halcomb's landing is a boat ramp off the left side of the dam and the Island is directly across the lake. Its a great place to pitch a tent for a weekend of diving. By the way it is a blast..:boom:

arj_scubabunny, they are talking about Lake Cumberland. It is also known as the southern home of the Ohio Navy.

Ky-Dwn-Under, your report makes me want to go!

time was had last Friday. Beautiful day for diving.

I think all the lakes in Ky are home to the Ohio Navy:D

Every year UK and St Joseph hospitals have a Ricky Rescue boat party near Party Cove at Lake Cumberland. I can't go this yr but hopefully next. Last year i wanted to dive there cause i was newly certified, but was afraid i get run over by the wave runners they had!!!
