Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has experience diving an oasis in colder (45-60 degree) water. Does it freeze up and free flow, or is it pretty reliable even in this water temperature. If anyone has more information, or any links to more information it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

i have a sherwood oasis 2 i got in 92 and i dive in so cal and have been down close to the mid 30's with it and it has never frozen up or given me problems. Also it shouldent freeflow unless its miss adjusted, or the usuall hits the water face down but any well adjusted reg that hits the water face down will freeflow and easy to stop. They also breathe really nice if they are well adjusted, i like mine havent found a reason to get a new one although i wish my first stage had 2 hp ports instead of 1.

You should be fine the Oasis has plated transfer fins which prevent reg freeze-up and captures moisture just like the Blizzard. The only difference between the Oasis and Blizzard is a plated exhaust heat sink which is absent in the Oasis. First stages are the same on Maximus, Blizzard and Oasis.

I have a Sherwood Oasis+ that I bought back in '89 and I have taken it ice diving in Michigan/Wisconsin (38 degrees f) and last year I dove with it in Antartica (28degrees) and never had a problem with freeze up or free flow.

The Sherwood Oasis and Blizzard regulators are pretty much bullet proof and with the dry bleed system it is very hard to get them to freeze up or freeflow. The NSF uses Sherwoods at McMurdo Station (Antarctica) as well.

I use the Oasis in San Diego waters. Temp range from 52-75 F. It works great. It is rated to 38 F according to spec book. The one thing I like is that it has a very smooth delivery at all depths and temps, except from 0-15 feet where it has some "drag." It eliminated drymouth when using compressed air, it does seem a little dryer with nitrox.

I've used mine in water that was less than 50 degrees. The only thing that I noticed is that in colder water I actually retained a bit too much spit. Condensation must have been a factor, or maybe I was just drooling because of the wreck. :-)

The Oasis and Blizzard are basically the same based on my LDS. It is a mind game you don't want an Oasis in cold water or a Blizzard in the tropics.

Blizzard has the same "moisture retention fins" like Oasis but they are teflon coated for better cold resistance; that's all...
