Hey all,
Sometime in the last three weeks or so, I got a tense but not necessarily painful crick in my neck that simply would not go away no matter how much I stretched it, which was accompanied by a slight feeling of lightheadedness/dizziness. I went to the university medical center, at which point I received muscle relaxants and light instruction in several stretching exercises. It has been about a week and a half since that time, and the tension is starting to loosen, but the dizziness is getting progressively worse.
Now, I know that I did a lot of diving over the summer, but my last dive was about a week before school started, and the neck pain didn't start until about halfway through the first week. Of course, I attributed it to stress, but since it has lasted so long, now I'm not so sure. Could this be diving related even though no symptoms showed for over 7 days?
Here are the facts that I can remember:
1. I did much more diving than usual this past summer (about 30 dives, which fully doubled my logbook)
2. Most of these dives were deep dives, including the ones right before the start of school
3. I have no serious past medical history
4. The dizziness seems to pull me to only one side for hours at a time, but it will sometimes switch
5. The dizziness has lasted from about 10 days past the conclusion of my last dive, and has gotten slowly, but noticeably worse since then
6. I have no pain or pressure in my ears from what I can feel
7. The onset of the dizziness occurred right after the onset of the neck pain
8. The neck pain exists in only one area, on the left, back side of my neck right where my spine meets up with my skull
9. Though the pain has subsided, it still exists
10. These problems are impairing my ability to concentrate
11. It is the fourth week of school now, I believe
12. I wear glasses (who knows, it could be relevant)
13. I am a perfectionist and anxiety prone (though I have never had a panic attack)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Michael Laughlin
PS. It's been three days since I took the last muscle relaxant
