Has anyone dove (dived?) the canyon out past Redondo Beach Pier? I have my first Advanced class there this weekend, and we'll be doing our deep dive in the canyon. Looking for tips, suggestions, etc. Seems that it will be a long swim out past the end of the pier, then going down 90-100 feet. Not looking forward to it, since I suck a lot of air anyway.

It's not a bad swim. Most divers enter straight out in front of the restrooms and drop down at the end of the pier. It's only about 50-60 yards. This puts you in about 35-40 feet of water, just a few kicks from the dropoff. It's probably the easiest beach dive in L.A.
