Diving Punta Cana DR

Anyone have any tips or advice on diving in Dominican Republic? I live in Saipan (Northern Mariana Islands) and Im heading to Punta Cana in January for a week. Is it worth hauling the gear and diving while Im there???

Any help would be appreciated!

From what I have read....it's not a true dive destination. Do a search on Punta Cana and you'll get a wealth of information here.

Last year I was there. Had two good good dives and two not so good. I just rented my gear as I only did one dive every other day. I would do it the same way again.
By the way, BuoyantC is on the board and a good friend that lives in Saipan. He is an instructor and an all around good guy if you need a dive buddy.

Do not bother, enjoy the nice beaches and relax. The diving is not worth it except to if nothing else put the gear on and get under water.
From my experence I would not haul the gear. esp for Punta Cana

If you can get an Catalina excursion to LaRamano there is pretty good diving there. Punta Cana is not known for good diving. It too bad though, there are some really good deals to Punta Cana.

I have not been, but I will also be there in early January (actually Dec. 30 through Jan. 3) and will be doing a few dives, I hope, while there. I could use a buddy, so let me know if you're interested in teaming up. I am a beginner, having done only 3 dives after my open waters, but am determined to do some diving even though it sounds like the diving is only so-so. Adam

I'm going there too in January. Will bring my wetsuit and reg with computer, nothing else. They rent for free there, and I'm not expecting to do more than 2 dives.
