My searches of this forum has been very helpful but I cannot locate any info re diving south of Tulum down to Punta Allen. Any info re dive operations, sites, lodging, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I am interested in both cenote and reef diving. Thanx

I know the Sian Kaan biosphere is restricted; diving there is by research permit only.

Head further south, down to the Xcalak and Mahahual area. In recent years, the ocean diving around Tulum and Akumal leaves a lot to be desired. Land based development issues and lack of proper, "official" marine protections have really done a number on destroying what used to be beautiful reef.

The southern end of the very active Riviera Maya diving corridor is Tulum pueblo. There are ops there and northward who offer both ocean & cenote diving. Southward, is the Mundo Maya -- fishing mostly, some snorkeling/swimming. Further south, diving begins again in the ocean along the Costa Maya and out to Banco Chinchorro and at Cenote Azul near Bacalar (a very large, very deep lake-like cenote.)
