I'm going to try New Castle Commons or the Fort. High tide at 11:27, slack at 12:59. Easy spots, new to me, just looking to try them out and get wet.
Anybody want to come along?

saw this post and thought, ahh someone from England (portsmouth) then read it and thought doh, how far away was i. lol.

Beautiful day, warm, bright sun, no wind. Cold dive, 12C at the surface and 11C at 20 feet. Poor visability, 5 to 6 feet. At the Commons the cove in the middle is sand with tons of long eel grass and the sides are rocky. Didn't see much, no fish, but it's supposed to be a good spearfishing spot according to a spearfishing diver that I talked to there. Maybe more fish are around at the high tide instead of the slack. I didn't go out too far, didn't get out to the river as I had no flag. It was a solo dive but I didn't mind because it's sort of a beginner's spot - it reminds me of Plum Cove in Gloucester.

The big event was, I lost my knife. It was a big old USD 'Sea Hawk' from the '70s, the kind people look at and figure you're some kind of a crazed novice. But I really liked that knife. It was big and heavy and had a top serrated edge that could cut through a lot of stuff. I'm going to miss that knife.

This was my 4th dive this fall with new gear - I'm getting comfortable with it. Now that the Seaquest Balance rear-inflate is trimmed out I really like it. The X-Vision mask is great; easy to adjust and it never leaks unless the strap is too high on my head. And the Atomic B1 is wonderful; I never think about it while I'm down and that's a good thing :D
