With the noted exception of Pontoon boats.

True, but taking a pontoon boat in anything that would be considered "open water" is not all that smart for a whole host of reasons.

For the most part true but not all diving is open water. And not all pontoon boats are created equal.

I did my OW cert on a pontoon boat. I hate those things!!! But that's what my LDS uses!!! IMO-they are not real boats.....give me at least a 30' Chris Craft and I'm happy!!

Man, a dive is a dive is a dive! I'm not much of a boat person... don't really care what I dive off... as long as I can sit or lie down in it going to and coming from a dive, has room for spare tanks, and my gear can fit.

LOL, Now thats not fair. Many a good time has been had on mine and it's never failed to bring me back when the lake turns wild. (OTOH, mine is not your typical pontoon boat) and you know the Lake for which I am talking about. When I was at the boat basin there are many times I was the only one that would make the trek to Valcour.

Yea, you've got a good lake for that type of boat!! My LDS uses Canadaguia Lake which is a lot smaller. Lake Champlain can get wild however!! Been in 6ft waves on that lake in a 23' boat at night. BTW I'll be up in June or July!! Hope you have the boat in by then!!

Your not kidding. I had a ferry ride from H*** a few weeks ago. I've seen bad but this was unbelievable. On the ride back to NY side we were with the waves. You could look down, the troth was 10' down, then look back the crest was over the gunwhales. Absolutely wild ride.

Mine goes in around the middle of April every year. Can you say cold?

Oh Ya, Happy B-Day

Hey Thanks!!

Those Ferry rides are the BEST!!! We love to take them in the summer! Heard it's been windy too as the cover started to come off dads boat up in the field.

April!!??? Where can you find a place to tie it up in April??? BBrrrrrrr they still have ICE up there at that time!!

LOL, I have my own dock and boat hoist so it is easy but cold.....brrrrrr

Thanks Folks for the great advice,

My friend and soon enough to be dive buddy has 2 very nice, and safe boats. He's been through several courses and his wife too, is about to start captains school. They are both safety concious.

So, I gather we'll need the flag I mentioned and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have oxygen on board, a 15' (in depth) line for the safety stop, perhaps a tank at the 15' or 20' mark, and an better ladder to get back in the boat.

The laddder may be the most difficult to achieve as that can be costly. We'll figure something out.

Thanks again for a replies.
