ok, my father just got a sailbotat, and i was wondering the pros and cons of diving off of it. its in the long island sound. I know this is very dangerous so we would have a three person dive. we figure we would anchor out, far from the channel, and put up a dive flag/ Just wondering if anyone had any tips or ideas about it.

How is diving off a sailboat any more dangerous than any other boat?

We have dove off a sailboat many times. It's not that hard. The worst part is getting back on board with gear. We've found the best thing to do is to take off your gear in the water by floating the BC and attaching it with a clip. Then first person climbs the ladder and everyone else hands up their gear.

The other solution to this was to take off your gear and put it in the dingy upon your return to the boat, then hand it up from there.

TIP:
If you are ALL getting in the water and not leaving anyone on board, then throw out a float line (100 to 200 foot line with float on it) so that if you come up down current from the boat you can use it to pull yourself back to the boat.
