Diving off of Kure Beach?

I just saw on the NC Archeological site that there is a blockade runner ship sunk out in the ocean off of the NC Aquarium. Has anyone dove this wreck and if so, was it a beach dive? I'm going to be at the Ft. Fisher Air Force Rec camp the last week on October.

I never have but recently discussed it with a buddy. We have DPVs, if you don’t keep in mind it’s about 2,100 feet from shore. I think it’s about 30’ depth. The paddle wheels are still intact.

Do some research with the 2 sites listed below. Back in the 80's the site was monitored because of artifacts being removed(someone was caught removing a case of muskets and I think a pretty hefty fine was paid). There use to be a NC Archaeology office right in front of the site. Every time we went to dive it , it was braile diving.

That is what I thought...too far out to be a surface swim.....

Condor Heritage Dive Site | NC Archaeology

The Civil War blockade runner Condor is one of 21 shipwrecks within the Cape Fear Civil War Shipwreck District listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Is anyone going to be in the Wilmington area on July 19th, 20th, or 21st and interested to dive this? Will be in the area that time to dive from California where I do a ton of beach diving. Looking to boat dive while over there, but this would be very cool.

I'll be there first week of July, not sure about rest of month. Boat dives would be with Aquatic Safaris or Carolina Beach Scuba depending on size of boat you like and proximity to where you're staying.
