Hi,

Given the nasty looking weather forecast for the weekend what do you think the odds are that any dive boat operators will be taking groups out? I was planning on coming to the area for a 1/2 day dive (yes I know I could just ask them, but I wanted the opinions of those of you who are familiar with these types of storms and how they might affect conditions versus maybe the overly optimistic thoughts of the dive boat operator).

I dove in a squall once off of Bermuda (the captain's term not mine) and that isn't the type of experience I am looking to repeat soon :) Dark with poor viz and lots of rockin and rollin on the surface :(

Much thanks!

Don't bother-You can check the marine forecast for the area here:

Hey thanks. Is they Diamond Shoals (Red Buoy) near the wreck of the Indura? I believe that is where the dive would be Sunday afternoon. It's Sunday actually that we might try to go. It appears that both storms would have passed through by then. Still a No go in your opinion? We are relatively new divers and don't want to get in over our heads(pun intended) on a non-guided dive. :)

Thanks for any additional thoughts/info!

you may be ok with the indra its consider shallow dive and some what hidden from some elments depends on how much winds usually with the wind in that direction most time waves are 4-6 feet so theres allways a chance keep your fingers grossed.

I want to add another thought to your head, I dont mean to sound optimistic but most poeple who not used to it will be in for a heck of time , trouble getting back on boat, currents ect.

Diamond Shoals bouy is not near the Indra. It went off line during Alex anyway, and has not been restored (it's broken right now). You'll notice that it still reads 21ft waves from 8/3/04.

If it were me - I would pass on this weekend and try again when conditions are more likely to work out in your favor. You might be make it to the Indra for a dive on Sunday afternoon, but the conditions would probably be less than ideal. What Medic says about waves, currents, and trouble getting back on the boat is true. Why not wait and make your experience a good one.

Sounds like good advice. I don't want us written up in the incidents and accidents forum :)

Dumb (or is it naive) question: would most dive operators even take people out in those kind of conditions?

Thanks again

I am booked for tomorrow & Saturday to dive off Beaufort. Just called the operator, and they said they were not sure yet wether they were going to cancel or not.

Looking at the present conditions and the forcast, what's not to be sure about? :11:

Seas are 5-8 ft tomorrow, 8-10 ft on Saturday...
