Wanted to know if anyone has heard of getting sick while diving nitrox?
My husband & I have recently gotten certified to dive nitrox. He has gotten sick everytime he uses it. This last time he decided to use air on the 2nd day of diving & felt just fine.
Any suggestions??

Please give us more details regarding profile, temp, stress level, diver experience, etc.

One cannot be allergic to oxygen, nor therefore to nitrox. There has to be another explanation.

....and what kind of sick and how?

its along the lines of COPD or emphysema. I think the partial pressure of O2 while diving nitrox is more than his system can handle.

This trying to pull stuff from memory from a long time ago though.

It is not possible to respond meaningfully to your inquiry without more information, such as what percentage(s) is he diving with what profiles, is he verifying the mix, what are his actual signs & symptoms, what have the dive conditions been, is he anxious about using it, any known medical illnesses, etc.

Excess oxygen can cause a number of signs and symptoms, including nausea & vomiting, visual disturbances, tinnitus, vertigo, twitching of lips, cheeks, nose or eyelids, and even fainting or convulsions.

There is also the possibility that noxious agents are being introduced into the mix by faulty shop blending equipment.

Until he gets this sorted out, it would be a very good idea to stop using nitrox.

Best regards.
