Does anyone here have knowledge of or know of a source of information for diving opportunities near Manta, Ecuador? I'm looking for info on land based operators in the area, not Galapagos. Thanks in advance.

My wife is there now so if you have not made the trip yet we will have lots of info on thursday david @ 406 -679-1999 yes, we are also from Montana!

Thanks for the reply David. I did make it to Ecuador last winter for a while. I visited the Galapagos, but sadly couldn't dive that time. I've been incredibly busy since I returned, and now it's time to think about my next trip. I'll be going back to Ecuador to visit family this winter, and I'm still looking for any info on non-Galapagos shore-based diving there. Any insight since from David or other members would be great. Thanks.

Hello David,

There is a very good place for diving near Manta. It is called Isla de la Plata. It is a marine reserve with very well conserved coral reefs. It is one of the best places to dive in continental Ecuador.

There is one dive center in the area, it is a PADI 5 Star IDC and the service is very good. They charge some 95 USD for the day trip, it includes two tanks. If you want me to, I can arrange things with them. I have worked for them as a freelance instructor in the past.

Cheers,

Jorge

Hi Jorge, seems like you are very familliar with the diving and land features in the Manta area.. I am currently an open water diver at the moment, and absolutely love it, this summer planning on getting my advanced and more and I have a plan for the future to open a water sports company on the shore of manta including scuba diving and sea kayaking. I have my citizenship there so my dream is to use it doing something I will love. I am currently in college and doing a business plan for it and i need to get some information about the diving industry located in the Manta area. If you could help me out with some questions it would be WONDERFUL ! my email is shelby.erazo@hotmail.com if your interested in helping me out a bit!:D
cheers,
Shelby

If anyone has any information on the diving industry in Ecuador as a whole and is keen on answering or helping me out with a research paper i am trying to put together please contact me at shelby.erazo@hotmail.com , I am a OWD, and a college student looking to pursue a career in diving or opening my own dive shop down there because i have a dual citizenship there and i know it would be a career id love ! my questions range from minimum number of dive team members to start, how much would hiring a dive master cost, what was the liability like if you did some diving there, and was there anything out of the ordinary or did anything stand out on the sheet? as well as what do you think ecuador needs more of? shore diving or entering the water through organized tours on a boat? i have more questions i need help with but like i said if there is anyone keen on helping me out I would appreciate it so much !!! cheers :)

talk to michel the owner of exploramar diving, he has shops in quito and puerto lopez. i've dived isla de la plata with them for two years in a row, very professional dive centers and well trained instructors

You can also talk with Eduardo Robalino, he owns Ocean Reef in Guayaquil and organize trips to the Manta area. www.oceanreef.com.ec
