I will be going to the San Francisco area in mid March and am hoping to get a little diving in. It doesn't sound like there is any diving in the area, but maybe some of you know? I have a 7mm and 4mm shortie with a hood that I can wear over it. I would like to stay in the area, but if I have to drive an hour or so, that would be fine. Any hints?? thanks!

You'll have to travel 2 hours to get to Monterey... That's your best bet for diving around here... There's some nice North Coast diving but that'll take a bit more planning and weather watching... and if you get washed out over there there's not much of an alternative but to go home...

Monterey you can hide in some spots like Breakwater and if it's really bad go visit the aquarium and still get to see the fishies. The logistics will also be easier since there are plenty of shops o rent from.

I second Monterey.

The North Coast is better dove with a Guide or group of other people for the first time.
However, a group called the North Coast Divers will be having a dive in Sonoma or Mendocino County at a shore diving site (undetermined at the moment). You can go to the website in my signature for more details when March rolls around if this sounds like something you'de like to take part in.

Other than that Monterey still remains the best choice.
