Pun intended.

Grew up snorkeling and would happily spend 6+ hrs a day face-down in the ocean whenever I found myself somewhere tropical. Had a passing interest in scuba but it seemed like such an expense, not to mention the pain of severely limiting "swim time" for a little more depth, and we already have enough expensive outdoor hobbies.

Over the years though, my wife and I collected enough diver friends that we finally decided to give it a go and get OW certified in Aqaba while we were visiting Jordan. Our first open water dive was an absolute lightbulb moment and we restructured the rest of our time in Aqaba to get in as many post-cert guided fun dives in as possible.

Now back to the cold water Pacific side of things, we're slowly gathering gear, have a drysuit couese tentatively scheduled for next month, and are trying to make the stars align for another tropical dive trip by the end of the year.

Obsessed.

Welcome to SB! Diving in the PN(wet!) is on my bucket list. I'd like to see a GPO and those wolf eels.

Thank you! I should have guessed, given how much tide-pool exploration I've done, but finding out the PNW is a minor "destination" for cold water took me by surprise. Getting the experience and kit to visit God's Pocket is great motivation.

Greetings and welcome from Bellingham. Where in the PNW are you? What do you like to dive?

PNW is one of my goals too. I’ve seen wolf eels in Monterey and the are so cool. I’ve never seen a giant pacific red octopus in the wild but we’ve all got to dream 😊

Welcome

Drysuit is a great idea. Being warm enough to enjoy the dive is a great idea.

I'm located just a bit south of you, in the Seattle area. I don't have enough dives yet to have strong preferences, but lean more naturalist than wreck diving, despite my profile pic.

We were lucky enough to get a really good look at a common reef octopus on our first official dive but completely agree, it would be amazing to see a GPO in the wild!

The Seattle community is fantastic and you have your choice of excellent sites. Perfect timing with the winter being the best time to dive.
I'm just North of you on Whidbey Island.

8 Diving, our closest shop, definitely seems to have a really tight knit community. Hopefully we'll be able to kit out enough to join their Wednesday dives soon!

That's the GUE community, which I do highly recommend for quality of instruction.
