Tragedy struck today as diver was attacked at a Florida spring. Tensions have been high at the spring between to gang factions, the "Strokes" and the "DIRs". Until now it has been a fight for territory but an innocent was caught in the crossfire. Apparently the young man was about to conduct a dive when he encountered several "Strokes" who noticed the brand of wing he was wearing. It is not often that a "DIR" is without at least one buddy, so they decided to take advantage of the situation. The "Strokes" brutally bungee whipped the diver and left him curled up in the fetal position like he had a bad case of the bends. At some point later, as the diver was starting to recover, a group of "DIRs" happened upon him. When they got closer they immediately noticed he had not 1 but 2 Halcyon wings on his backplate. They could not tolerate this ultimate disrespect on their turf. While holding him down they quickly replaced his twin cylinders of trimix with independent doubles of air. Two "DIRs" then took him to 200' and, while suffering from narcosis, made him sign over his new SUV. It is unclear how the title was transferred under water, this is potential failure point in the story. Right now authorities believe the "Strokes" are probably in hiding, breathing high partial pressures of nitrogen and the "DIRs" are separating the He from the stolen trimix for sale on the black market. Stay tuned.

Right there is where the story falls apart. A DIR diver would never dive solo. So the strokes beat up one of their own.

I guess I should have been clearer, he was alone on land. He was not a "DIR" just mistaken for one.

I hear that there is a new church sponsored outreach program to get these troubled divers to dive together and learn to enjoy and respect one another.

Rumour has it that there is also a new movie coming out that accurately protrays the angst and terror that belonging to one of these gangs brings to a young diver - "Wet Side Story"

"When you a Stroke"

When you're a stroke,
You're a stroke all the way
From your jacket BC
To your last bid on E-Bay.

When you're a Stoke,
If your reg's out of air,
Grab buddy's three footer,
and get the hell out of there!

You're never in caves,
You're never confused with EODs!
but you're under the waves:
When trouble comes to tell,
Your safe in your NDL!

Then you are wet
non-DIR kit to see,
you might hear laugher below you.
but it is squeaky with He,
When you're a stroke,
You stay a stroke!
