After wanting to get up there for the pasy year I am finally heading up to Cairns for a week of diving on the Great Barrier Reef! I've been hunting around online and in books trying to gather up some info on dive centres, locations etc.

Has anyone dived in the GBR off Cairns and has and must sees or recommendations for me? Or maybe some recommendations of some quialty well priced dive centres up there.

We're planning on being there in mid April.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks - I'm pumped!

I went with Deep Sea Diver's Den there and was happy with them. I especially liked the fact that the instructor there recognized my c-card from Los Angeles County (and referred to it as a "museum piece"). He was the only one in my three months of backpacking and diving who knew enough to know what it represented.

Just 60k north is Port Douglas, take a day boat or better yet a 4 day liveaboard from Port Douglas out to Osprey or Lizard Island area and to the Ribbons. The farther north you go the better diving.

Thanks guys :)

Do you think we are better off basing ourselves in Pt Douglas? We are flying to Cairns, but it's no problem getting to Pt Douglas.

Any "must do" dives off Pt Douglas?
