I am taking my wife and teenage sons on a get diving certified vacation in the panhandle. What city and instructors do you recommend. I am currently leaning toward Pensacola, mainly because I've never been there. Any ideas would be great.

I would think either MBT Divers or ScubaShack in Pensacola would take good care of you.

And in your nondiving time, lots to do there. Beaches and Naval Aviation Museum among the most popular.

Destin too, Emerald Coast or Scubatech.

Check out Divepros as well. ScubaShack is ran by some nice people but they will nickle and dime you to death. I swear, they had some straps for a knife in a package that said $6.95. I needed those so I try to buy them. The guy says, oh these are 6.95 for the upper strap and 6.95 for the lower. Upper and lower?!? Really?!?

I dove with ScubaTech out of Destin in late June. I was very impressed with their whole operation and had a really good time.

Bay Breeze Scuba Shop in Gulf Breeze (right at the foot of bridge to pensacola) is worth it. They take care of you, instructor is cool and PRICE PRICE PRICE can be nearly $100 different then other shops (Fort Walton), so this is why I went to them...my 2 cents worth....have fun!

Dive Locker in PCB is what I recommend. I took my daughter there and dove with them when she got certified and it was totally awesome! The crew is super friendly and stopped on the way back in one morning to let us snorkle with some dolphins they saw (no extra charge). Plus, St. Andrews state park is only about five minutes down the road from them and has pretty good shore diving if you'd want to try that.
