Good Monring All,

Just completed my OW dive course @ Great Barrier Reef, and i think i am hooked into this sport :light:

Now my question is... where in Sydney can i find a good dive club to learn more about this sport. And my 2nd question, what other course interested you after your basic OW dive course? and why.

I live in Boston, but when I was in Sydney last year on business I arranged a couple of great dives with Abyss Scuba Diving, in Ramsgate. It's a very professional operation and I know that they have an active club with many local dives weekly. Enjoy!

Depends where you live in Sydney. There are a dozen or more shops around.

Check out the Diveoz website, most shops have some sort of club plus there are a couple of independant clubs and boat operators. Try the ones closest to you and also consider places like Jervis Bay & Port Stephens
I reckon the most useful courses are Advaanced, Rescue and Deep. The advanced course should give you the basic skills required to do 90% of Sydney diving. The rescue course gives you a much better understanding of how to handle an emergency and more important how to avoid one and the deep course teaches you about gas management. If you can combine the deep or advanced with a nitrox course all the better. Different agencies use different names for their course but all will offer a version. As much as a course is useful just do as much diving as you can.

I'm not really a local, but Sydney is almost my second home. Whenever I go there, I dive with Prodive. I recommend you give them a try. Phil and the crew will take good care of you and they will also give you advice about additional training. I would recommend that you don't rush the training. You've got a lot of new skills to practice so take your time.

Dibber is right, what area are you from?? i can suggest Robyn at Dive Centre Manly, Tricky at Dive Centre Manly, Froggies at Frogdive Willoughby or Frogdive Guildford, Kel at St George Underwater Centre or go or see Leslie at Shiprock Dive, Abyss has a good rep also. otherwise there are some uni clubs also.

Frogdive has a strong dive club, monthly dive bbqs and weekends away - (disclaimer) hubby is an instructor there also.

bioGundaM's original post is a few weeks old now, but in Sydney Abyss is definitely one to check out. They are a busy operator, close to all the best sites in Sydney, careful to make sure visitors stay within their capabilities, and the diving is free if you bring your own gear. Otherwise you rent what you need.

Plenty to choose from. I've dived with Abyss (Did my OW there), and Pro Dive Manly (Did my AOW). Both are great with fantastic people. Pick one closest to where you live! Or pick one with the dive sites you're interested in. I regularly check out both websites, and see where they are diving in the coming weekend. Then I choose which operator to go with.
