These guys C & C Marine at Largs do equipment hire and boat trips, I dived with them some years ago, the Clyde wrecks can be pretty dark.

Don't write Oban off for a weekend, 2 hours isn't that far and can certainly be done either for a day or weekend.

You could try coming over to the east coast and dive in the Forth with Mark from the Divebunker in Burntisland, only about an hour and a bit from glasgow.
Can be a bit low on the visibility front but the Blae rock is superb, also plenty of wrecks as well.
