Hey folks,

Apologies if this is a repetitive inquiry but the SB search function does not appear to be working.

What is the diving like in Sardinia? Specifically asking about diving around La Maddalena and the Golfo di Orosei. Hopefully heading there in September and wouldn't mind getting into the water if it is somewhat worth it (COVID has kept me from diving as much as I would like these past 18 months!).

Preferred/recommended sites and dive shops? Dive profiles/conditions/average water temps in mid-September? What might you typically see in terms of topography, marine life and anything else interesting?

Thanks!

You may have already gone to Sardinia, anyway I did a technical diving weekend 10 days ago near Cagliari and I was very satisfied. It was 30 degrees Celsius outside, perfect water temperature as well as visibility. Wrecks between 40 and 65 meters (The Loredan wreck was really beautiful) with DPV. I have been to the diving EXPLORERS TEAM, a GUE diving that I recommend

Checking in to see how your trip was. I'm planning to go in May and do my advanced open water certification. I'm torn between Maddalena, Tavolara, and Orosei. Where did you end up diving and do you have any recommendations on locations and dive shops?

I have been there in 2020. We made an appointment with a divecenter in Golfo Aranci before we went there. On arrival, we went directly with our rental car from the airport to the divecenter and then us was told they were full because a group also did an inquiry and that fitted the owner better than only 3 people. So we had to look for another divecenter.
I have called some around Aranci and some could organise diving, but only 30 minute dives, and 1 a day. This was diving Atlantica Boat in Marinella.
We ended with a divecenter, I cannot find the name on google anymore in Porto Rotondo (it is not the name that is now on google, but it is there. We used Leila diving center which had then 2 divingcenters, one in Olbia and one in Rotondo). They had a very old compressor, but they organised 3 dives a day and did what we asked for. Very nice people. Price was not that cheap, 85 euro for 2 dives but the dives were long. The guides were cold after 45 minutes, and we could do as long as we wanted, so stayed up to 70 minutes. Deco was no problem.

We did technical diving with Tavolara diving, that is under Olbia. They also do recreational trips, but are then strict with no deco. I have used this divingcenter with students for a normoxic course. Friendly and really nice places to dive. Reefs, but nice.

And we used Blufaria for the cave diving. Also a good diving center. They also do recreational diving, but we don't have experiences with this. The boat to the cave was mixed with us as technical divers and recreational divers. We had no timelimit, were asked to dive max around 3 hours, but if we wanted, longer was no discussion. The recreational divers did 2 dives in the same time in the cavern there.

So we had a rental car and could drive all over the island. It is a nice island, but very big. In 2020 (it was completely open then) we had not an option do dive as much as we wanted, because also Leila diving did not go out on one day as I was the only customer. So I had a boring day then.
Tavolara organised the dives we asked for, but we had to reschedule it a couple of times due to wind. And then we had to reschedule the cave diving also, but they did not make a problem of this.
