there are 2 dive shops in POM, u can look at their sites at www.loloata.com or http://www.divecentre.com.pg. You should have a read of Micheal Mcfadens trip report of 2005 at http://www.michaelmcfadyenscuba.info/articles/pnginfo.htm.

I dived POM extensively while living in POM for 6 years and there are some really memorable dives namely the pacific gas, Boston A2 Havoc, Susies reef end bommie to name a few. If the weather is good you should also try to get down to the southern sites calles the pinnacles which were just fantastic.

Both operators have been in POM for a long time and now the sites extensivley. I spent most of my time going out with John Miller from the Dive Centre and was never disappointed.

I wish I could help you with POM diving. However, I spend all my time either based on New Ireland Island or New Britain Island. I spend little time in Port Moresby. Only enough time to spend money at PNG Arts (a MUST buy place). Both of these islands are just a quick flight away, though.

Apart from the art craft, is there any thing else to buy in PNG, Port Moresby ? The coffee perhaps ?

You can bring back lotsa coffee of all types. I really like Blue Mountain and Garoka, which is everywhere. I bring back canoe paddles which I buy off of people who paddle outriggers to our boat. The artwork, wood carvings and bark cloth, are amazing and quite reasonable at PNG Arts. You will go nuts there. Billims, the string bags that people use for carrying everything, make great gifts. They are, however, not cheap as they can take weeks to make. Also, baskets that are made in the highlands, are readily available all over the town(and at the airport). They are beautiful!

HMMMM......you bring me a few pounds and I'll see you get on a wreck in NC. THAT'S how much I love PNG coffee. Bye the way, the coffee growers in Garoka made a contract this year to ship bulk coffee to the USA for the first time. Maybe it will start showing up in Starbucks or Caribou.....

I just bought "Crafts and Artifacts of PNG" which tells which items are rare, common etc.

I am a sucker for Kona coffee, myself.

I want to buy things there....go to a sing sing. I want to have a PNG avatar month, where we paint our faces. I might use parabolics images to figure it out...

I bought a novel recently that took place in PNG but gave it away and now cannot remember the name. I want to read it. About a journalist traveling around, hitching rides (a woman)

anybody have any opinions about best way to fly there? probably not many carriers.

The biggest sing sing festivals are at Mt Hagen in August and Goroka (Spetember this 06 year and supposedly July from 07). There are great photos of Goroka at Franks site http://www.frank-travel.com/new/GGA/index.htm
Another scubaboarder and I will be at Goroka this year but his trip on Febrina is the 10 days ahead of mine.
I have flights from Cairns on the Qantas Air Niugini code share - this site has all the connections into Port Morsbey http://www.pngbd.com/travel/flights.php there are flights from Singapore and HonkKong as well as several Aussie cities and pehaps other places too.
