We are headed to Punta Cana for a wedding next week and would like to get some diving in while there.

We are interested in making the trip to Bahahibe area from Punta Cana, however we would rather not use the dive shop at our resort and would prefer to use a local shop in the Bahahibe area..

Can anyone recommend a shop and a safe secure method of travel between punta cana and the Bahahibe area?

Is it safe to take a cab? do any dive shops in the south offer travel from punta cana?

Thanks in advance!

A few years ago I did a 2 week trip to DR. 1 week in Bahahibe and 1 in Punta Cana. I used a car service to take me to Punta Cana but I can't remember the name. I Googled it and was pleased with the results.

Casa Daniel runs a good dive op www.casadaniel.tripod.com

You might want to take a look at the cost difference between doing this trip to Bahahibe on your own or thru the dive op at your resort. I've done it many times thru mine (Scubacaribe) and it was a lot of fun, and cheaper..by a lot.

great information, thank you for the advice.. I notice you are from Rockaway, I'm a Byram resident myself.

I haven't been impressed with scubacaribe dive ops in every other country i have been to, it is sort of the generic no personality version of a real dive op if you know what i mean. However in this instance since we are only diving 1 day and are really there for a wedding i might have to settle.

spoke to the dive shop at my hotel.. they don't go to catalina or south on thursdays.. they did offer a half day trip to cap cana so now i'm going to look into that since I haven't found any other operators to make the trip south with.

We ended up diving with Scubafun, Ingrid was able to book us a ride and 2 dives.

We did the St. George wreck and Penon II reef.. both were interesting dives, the wreck was huge and the reef had lots of life, albeit small. Saw lots of rays, a turtle, lots of shrimp and lobsters as well.

The people at Scubafun were very friendly and very helpful, even though our DM didn't speak much english we had zero issues communicating.

I can't say enough about ScubaFun. John (the owner) is a great guy and his boats are roomy. They will take care of you!

ScubaFun is definitely the way to go if you dive in Bayahibe. John is a funny guy, but he also knows his stuff and the sites. Glad you enjoyed your time!
