Flag Rock is a 'locals' beach, most folks live within walking distance. There is VERY limited parking around the corner at the small lot there. There is a girl collecting under $10 to park but if you get there early or talk nice to her and tell her you are going to be only an hour or so she might let you in for free midweek. No public bath's that I am aware of although you might try the Post Office or teh small store a couple blocks up the road. THere is also a more public beach further down which MIGHT mave a portapotty. There is even less parking here than up at FR.
FR is a fun dive though! You can't get much more than 35 feet, and even then only on an extremely high tide. It's a great place to take a beginner or do a "Shake off the cobwebs" dive. I took my daughter there for her first time in scuba gear. We suited up on the stones and I carried all the Princesses gear to the waters edge. (If she had to carry any heavy gear...Ya right, like that might happen!) We went over basic skills and concepts again then it was time to walk into the water. She was playing it way too cool to get excited about any of it until I pointed out a lobster under a rock. All of a sudden her look changed from "Basic bored teenager...Ya Dad, this a great, can we finish up her and I can go shopping...," to "Holy Cow, that's a lobster!!! Hey look, there's another! And there! And there! There's one more!!!!!! Dad, get that one!!!!!"
She was zooming around like a rat on crack! She turned into a girl possessed, and I watched the birth of a scuba diver happening in front of me. (Here's a cool thought, that makes the second time I've watched her be born!)
Now, don't get too excited, we're not talking keepers, but there are a heck of a lot of small lobsters there. And I did mangae to find one that was just barely legal and we brought that home for her as a trophy/dinner. I don't see her reaching into any holes any time soon, (The Princess thing dies hard) but she already has her own lobster license and is asking me when we can go again. (How cool is that!)
