New to Kingston in the new year! LOL Looking to find out what there is to dive and who is still diving. Also looking to find out what type of gear I'll need to bring... I'm still in --warm water-- pretty fishes --gear for the moment.

Welcome! I spent a bit of time over the last year diving in Kingston. Great wrecks to check out. Here's a link that might prove useful.

Kingston and Brockville in particular as they are close.

You'll need a 7mm wetsuit (or dry if you can dive dry). Might be able to get away with a 5mm, but only for a short part of the season.

Check out northern tech divers too, located in Kingston. It's where I dive out of when I'm there.

Thanks for the info. I checked out the Northern Tech site-- looks a little to advanced for my style of diving. Any other shops or clubs that are more into sport diving? I don't own doulbles and don't dive deeper than 90ft. A friend told me to check out the Kingston dive center-- but I can't find them in the yellow pages.

NTD was the Kingston Diving Center, we have a club with all levels of diving www.gluediveclub.com

90% of the diving in Kingston is done on singles and under 90 feet.

Tom. Thanks for the info. My buddy hasn't been to Kingston for some time- so his info is quite dated. What about the other shop "Divequest"-- I can't seem to find it on the web. I checked out your club- looks impresive-- but all I saw where people in doubles. Is the club part of the NTD shop or is it independant. I had a bad experience with a shop based club when I was getting into the sport.

I write the newsletter for the club...I do not dive doubles, actually most members do not have doubles, but most of the folks with the cameras do have doubles hence the photos of people in doubles. They may look scary , but I dive with these guys all the time and they are great fun!!
I also dive out of NTD as does Warren, They offer excellent service and there is usually always someone around to dive with if you don't have a buddy . NTD offers the club members a great rate for a boat dive durring the week and on Saturday evenings.Hope this helps

noproblem,
The club is independent of the shop. The shop has provided us with a meeting room from time to time, but generally the club meetings are conducted over coffee and a bite to eat at Tommys Restaurant next door. The club would be an excellent place to start, if you are new to the area. However, it will not take long for you to find lots of divers both in Kingston and down river to dive with. The whole area has a very active dive community. If you are planning to buy a dry suit there are a number of folks around that would be willing to show you the do's and do not's of using one. The club works very hard at cultivating a sense of mentorship.

In closing, do not let the double tanks and the equipment in the photos neither intimidate you nor fool you. I dive with most of the folks in the photos, if they are hauling doubles and stages and cameras around it is usually because they are training for an up coming course or preparing for a survey project. Most of them enjoy slipping into single tank setups at every chance they get. Just because folks have lots of equipment does not mean they know what they are doing. Show up check them out and trust your common sense. Safe diving starts with the correct thinking and training. The skills build with time in the water.

All the best
