Its a great place to dive and better equipped than most dive shops in the states. They can cater to just about any need. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable.

and don't get me started on the food poisoning?

I have been diving in the DR many times. We have traveled most of the southeastern to central coasts exploring deep reefs, walls, wrecks and many inland caves. Also did a week filming the Humpback Whales in the northern Silver Banks. The people of the DR are excellent and helpful. Of course, like any country, including the USA you must pay attention to your surroundings and not hang out in the bad sections of town at 2am.

Much of the diving here is untouched by others and many new discoveries are possible for those willing to put in the effort. The DR has EXCELLENT macro photography potential with thousands of little critters in each coral clump.

I use Pirates Cove Dive Center as my main base camp for expeditions as they can provide any logistic support needed.

See the above links for images from my last trip to the DR.

I am planning a return trip in the first week of December, but more just for a fun week of rebeather / recreational diving, wreck and macro reef photography.

The first issue of ADM E-Zine, due to be released on Sept 3rd for free download has an article in it on DR and Pirates cove.
