Diving in Dec. in Penang?

I will be in Penang for a week in December. How are the conditions there? Is it worth to bring my equipment?

Nearest dive spot that I remember is Pulau Payer near Langkawi

I hear it is possible to dive Penang, but I haven't heard 'glowng reports'.....

One option could be to take a short flight with Fire Fly to Banda Aceh and hop over to Pulau Weh....
