I am an officer in the Army and will be down at Benning later this year. Does anyone know of any good spots to go diving? Also, is anyone interested in being a dive buddy during the weekends? Or a dive group? I am sure I can find some Army buddies, but I thought I would ask here. I hear there is a nice park at Panama City, but I didn't know what else is there. I would like to get as many dives in as possible while down there.

Are you staying at the Ft Benning recreation area in Destin? If so, there are lots of dive operations in Destin. My favorite is ScubaTech. The Sea Cobra is a good boat and the Captain, Nancy, is top notch. You can shore dive at the Destin bridge. You can also shore dive the Destin jetties if you don't mind a long, long hike in full dive gear.

The good shore diving at Panama City Beach is at Saint Andrews State Park. They have a jetty with calm shallow water inside the jetty, and deeper water outside the jetty. If you are going outside the jetty make sure you dive it before high tide--you don't want to get sucked out the pass on an outgoing tide.

In the opposite direction, you can do a decent shore dive at the jetties at Ft Pickens near Pensacola Beach. Once agan, dive it on a rising tide.

Longshotgene - Don't know of any good dive spots near Benning. But you can always check out the dive shops in Columbus (2 shops) and see what dive trip they have planned. Or check out my local dive shop website - thediveshop.pro - they have trips planned and posted on their website. We are about 1 1/2 hours southeast of Benning.
