My husband and I have decided to go to Fiji for Christmas this year...we will have our 2 kids in tow.. Can anyone suggest a good family friendly island that I can go diving from?
Thanks

I think it depends a little on the age of the kids and what you are looking for outside of the diving aspect. Naigani is extremely family friendly and very very safe for the kids. The diving is OUTSTANDING!! But if the kids are teens and not into diving/snorkeling/kayaking a lot they may get a bit bored after a few days. There are a few holes of golf on a course that is more than mini put but not real golf dimensions at all, a pool table, a pool, and some other game type things kids can do. Internet is usually available via wifi up by the office. The fishing is VERY good and there is a village tour and a dolphin trip that are all real good. There is also a day trip to the old capitol of Lavuka where there is some shopping and a small museum. But you wont find any jet skis, zip lines, four wheelers, or things of that nature on the island.

Large spacious bures that are 2-3 star quality and good food. Fijian music and kava at night in the restaurant/bar.

Again, depending on the age of the kids and their interests, Naigani may well be perfect for you and it is a very very good value.

Thanks for that...Kids are 10 and 15..my 15year old has her open water, so she will probably come out with me for a few trips...;)

Plantation Island Resort on Malolo Lai Lai which is part of the Mamanuca group of islands fits the bill.

Their beach features on many of the Air Pacific advertisements about Fiji and they cater for all watersports as well as golf etc. Spent many a pre Christmas holidays there with family but keep in mind that it is cyclone season around that time and you may have to cut your holiday short sometimes. Musket Cove resort is also on the island but at low tide the lagoon empties out at Musket leaving you with sand flats.

Mel for familly freindly I'd strongly recommend Plantation Island resort which is based on Molololailai Island.
You will be diving with Subsurface Fiji. They are based at Musket cove resort on the same island.Their gear is not bad at all and you will be boat diving off off a reasonable sized ally cat. There are some really lovely dives to be had and if your younger child wants to do a DSD theres a few spots that are utterly fantastic.
You get picked up from your wharf to do your dives.
The way it s structured is that the two AM dives are for more advanced divers-ie qualified to at least OW.Some dives require a few dives under your belt but they set the dives to suit the customers.
The afternoon dive (single) is usually a relaxed affair and often have DSD divers on board.
Jon the manager for the area is an American who incidently likes canadian whisky.
Masicly if you stay in the Mamacuca's -which is Plantation island,Musket cove resort,Mololo island resort,Funky fish,Likiliku,Treasure island, castaway and a few other places you will be diving with subsurface. They as I said earlier have a main base at Musket Cove and another dive shop on castaway.
Regarding PI resort We have been to Pi a few times.
First off a list for you.
A washing line and pegs-just a rope will be fine.
aloe vera,Sunscreen.plasters.
Soap,shampoo washing powder.
-This stuff will make life easier. String the washing line alongside the bure.
There is a large dairy/small supermarket down the airstrip end of the resort near annando's eaterie (5 minutes walk from reception)
Taking the breakfast/dinner mealplan worked well for us.
It meant that breakfast is eaten together and is pretty substantial.
Dinner doen't need to be eaten at the copra hut. You can use your dinner voucher at the new eaterie or the one down near the supermarket.
I'd STRONGLY recommend booking any tours, cruises as early as possible so you don't miss out. some stuff happens only once a week.
The kids club is fantastic for the three year old so YOU can relax. Theres plenty for the older kids to do.
Lunch wise I'd suggest the new eaterie just behind reception -the burgers are stunning and even the salad is fantastic. Incidently -you get supplied towels for showering but you can also "rent" towels for the beach/swimming etc. A bond gets loaded against your account and gets credited when you return the towels.
Ahh another tip--REALLY drill intyo the kids not to drink the shower water. Its desalinated salt water but its not good for drinking .
If you like a drink with dinner you can buy a 20 drink voucher from reception. It ends up being basicly 30% off your drinks.
The "dairy" down the airport end is also a bakery--fresh bread every day.
A suggestion there for you.
You WILL find that you "loose" your main bags as you arrive.. Don't worry. They will find their way to the door of your Bure.
You will be escorted through to The Copra Hut and will be sat down and given a complimentary drink whilst waiting to be taken to your room.
The slightly "off" smelljust around the bar is actually the flowers from a native plant thats right there.
If your kids pack their togs in their carry on they can walk about 10m up the steps to the first swimming pool. They can paddle in the kiddy pool or if old enough play on the slide.-Thatll keep them entertained whilst you guys do the paperwork.
You probably wont notice but as you get to the end of the wharf theres three "offices" -the first office is where you book your boat trips including snorklingtrips. If the scuba dive place is open say hello to the folks there from the "frosties".
The best ice smoothies are at the wharf end of the copra hut.
You guys dont per chance want a guide for your trip do you? -Im green with envy
-heck I could go on and on --you will have a great time.

If you need any contact phone numbers /e maills etc feel free to ask.
