I have been getting reports regarding cyclone damage (from operators in the hardest hit areas), and I'm happy to say that most damage has been confined to areas more shallow than 20'. There some staghorn and table corals have been upturned or broken, but most reefs have weathered the storm well and the vast majority of areas reported on are still great dives! One benefit of the storm seems to be that while visibility is down plenty of nutrients have been stirred up and the marine life is abounding!

I just returned from Wananavu. We missed 2 days of diving when Tomas was threatening, but it turned East and South so we missed the brunt of it. Some rain and strong winds. We dove for 7 days afterwards, both inside the reef and the Bligh Waters. Some visibility problems, but no storm damage to the reefs at all.

The more northern islands were hit harder.:)

We just returned from diving Taveuni...right where the eye of the storm passed through. There was evidence of storm damage, but it only made the diving more interesting. There was still TONS of gorgeous soft coral and the fish life AMAZED me! If you're considering diving Fiji, don't worry about the effects of Tomas...the pool is open :D:D:D
